If you plan a trip to Yorkshire this year, here are some suggestions for breaking your Yorkshire Dales holiday.
The Yorkshire Dales are actually a collection of hills and river valleys in the west of the Vale of York in northern England. Each valley is different from the wild beauty and grandeur of Arkengarthdale to Swaledale rolling hills and untouched forests.
Middleham Castle is also nearby and is a great place for a picnic to enjoy with dogs welcome. Haworth village is also very popular because it is the home of the Bronte sisters, famous writers. Near Haworth Moor is the inspiration behind the novel Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte is his. Enjoy homemade scones in the charm of small towns such as Swaledale Thwaite or Gunner Side.
• Visit small shops selling handicrafts, paintings and locally knitted sweater.
• Visit the bustling little market in Reeth, or take the mobile fish and chips in Swaledale.
• Children are the farm animals and a love for Hazel Brow Farm organic ice cream.
• Go pony trekking on Arkle Moor Riding Centre.
• Barnard Castle, with its magnificent castle and Bowes Museum, a short drive away.
• Near Richmond has a magnificent Norman castle, Georgian architecture and the impressive newly refurbished Georgian Theatre Royal, built in 1788.
• Book early for local tours in North Yorkshire village halls by the prestigious North Country Theatre.
We recommend a Dales cottage in Swaledale or Arkengarthdale because there are fewer than Wensleydale are just as fun though.
